Colonel Jim Hanke, USA (ret)

COLONEL JIM HANKE, USA (RETIRED) Col. Hanke’s career in the Army is as follows.

ACTIVE DUTY ARMY ASSIGNMENTS

AIT Infantry Company Commander, Ft. Gordon, GA. US Army Special Forces, 1st Group, Okinawa:
Special Forces “A” Team Commander.

His duty assignments were in Southeast Asian countries, including Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Japan and Korea.
Captain Hanke addressed a company of Laos Special Forces that were trained in northeast Thailand.

He became the Program Manager, Office of the G2, Headquarters, US Army, Republic of Vietnam:
responsible for conversion of all US long-range reconnaissance patrol units (LRRP) to Ranger units.
Next he became Assistant G2 (Intelligence), 1st Cavalry Division; Operations Officer (S3), 163rd MI Battalion, Ft. Hood, TX. He was assigned as Site Development Officer, Joint Casualty Resolution Center, Thailand: Supervised gathering and integration of intelligence
and terrain information available to attempt recovery of Vietnam era MIA/POWs. He designed and supervised establishment of first comprehensive official listing of ALL Vietnam-era MIA’s, KIA’s, and KIA-BNR. Jim worked in the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Department of the Army, Pentagon. He was Senior Intelligence Officer (G2 Responsible for the Opposing Forces Program development and implementation and acted as Foreign Liaison Officer, and Systems Analysis Officer. Next, he was assigned to8th Infantry Division, Bad Kreuznach, Germany as Senior Intelligence Officer (G2)/ also Current Operations Officer (G3 Ops).

Then he moved to Third U.S. Army; Ft. McPherson, GA. His final assignment was US Army Attaché to the State of Israel as the official representative of the Chief of Staff, United States Army, to the Israeli Defense Force land forces. He supervised exchange programs in Armor, Artillery, Logistics, Combat Engineering, Infantry and Special Operations, and Reserve forces, in addition to intelligence collection and counterterrorism efforts.

Military Qualifications: Master Parachute Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Foreign parachute badges awarded from Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Japan (Ranger), Israel, Philippines, and Egypt. He also was qualified HALO Team (High Altitude, Low Opening).

Degrees: Bachelor of Science, Psychology, Distinguished ROTC Infantry Graduate, University of Wisconsin, Master of Arts, Social Psychology, Catholic University, Washington D.C, 6 Awards and Honors: Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal. Vietnam Service ribbon with seven campaign devices.
