Marty Greenblatt served in the US Army for six years as a military intelligence officer and 1st Lieutenant, about half the time on active duty and the remainder in the Army Reserves.
He went on to graduate from The Cornell Law School and was admitted to practice before the Massachusetts and Federal Courts. He practiced law in Boston for 40 years as a business lawyer, specializing in securities law and complex financial transactions.
Following his retirement from the practice of law, Marty and his wife retired to Los Angeles, where he completed the LAPD Academy training (as one of the -ahem-most "senior" persons ever to do so) and became a sworn reserve police officer. After completion of LAPD Basic Detective School and the State of California Institute for Criminal Investigation course of advanced study, he earned his certification as a property crimes investigator. He was assigned to the Pacific Detective Division as a case-carrying reserve detective, specializing in the investigation of complex financial crimes, fraud and financial elder abuse. In that position, he investigated, filed charges with and assisted the District Attorney in the prosecution of hundreds of such cases resulting in virtually a 100% conviction rate. During the 14 years he served as a detective, he was honored three times to be selected as the LAPD Reserve Officer of the Year.
In 2018 they relocated to SCA. At that time, he was hired by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as an investigator with the highly specialized VIPER Auto theft Task Force. He served in that position until last April when Metro was forced to lay-off all part-time employees due to major anticipated budget cuts resulting from the pandemic. Marty is currently serving as a Director on the Veterans Club Board of Directors.
Marty’s presentation will be focused on the various types of financial fraud (scams) seniors need to be aware of, and how to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.
