Bio for Lieutenant Commander Morris E. Mansell.
Lieutenant Commander Morris Mansell was born during WW2. His father flew B-17s and B24s
Over Europe. In July 1962, ”Morrie” finished high school at age 17, joined the Navy and became a
submariner. He was admitted to the Naval Aviation Cadet Program in June, 1965 and completed
fighter jet flight training in April, 1967, received a commission as Ensign and was awarded his Navy
“Wings of Gold”. Selected for training in the F-8 Crusader, Morrie completed training at Miramar,
Joined VF-53, “The Iron Angels”, embarked aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. During 1968 and
1969 he flew two tours in Vietnam and was later detached to VF-201 at NAS Dallas as a reserve F-8 pilot.
Morrie started his airline career with Braniff airlines in 1970 and retired from United Airlines in 2002.
Morrie lives with his wife Marcia, a United Airlines flight attendant, and is an avid bowler and tennis
