Barbara Tabach, Project Director for Veterans’ Voices

ATTENTION:

The January 9th meeting will start at 6:00 PM and will be held at the Anthem Center in the Delaware Room:

Barbara Tabach is the founder and Director of Veterans’ Voices: We’re Listening. As a professional oral historian, she has listened to hundreds of hours of storytelling. After settling in Las Vegas in the early 1990s, her new home became the focus of her work. One story at a time, she listened and learned. Her body of work preserves the voices of the people and events unique to the history of building southern Nevada.

Her intent in preserving Veterans’ stories began at a high school reunion with five classmates who all served in the Vietnam War and asked her to help them talk of their experiences. Listening to these previously untold stories was a deeply moving experience that stayed with her for years to come. The opportunity to act on that passion finally arrived in 2022 with the launch of Veterans’ Voices: We’re Listening.

Humbled by the privilege to conduct oral histories of our military veterans, Barbara knows the project’s creation assures that their stories of service and sacrifice will not fade away.

Barbara’s previous oral history projects preserve stories from the last days of the Frontier Hotel; the tragedy of the shooting, Remembering 1 October; former residents of the Walking Box Ranch; the contributions of leaders with the Southern Nevada Jewish Heritage Project and the Latinx Voices of Southern Nevada. These oral histories, among others, are now archived at the UNLV Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives.
